Nestled in the back corner of a lush garden in an inner city suburb, Garden Studio is a humble retreat for a creative client to work and relax in equal measure. Expanding upon the archetypal garden shed, the studio elevates this typology to new heights. A conspicuous black box provides a bold backdrop for the surrounding greenery, while a steeply angled roof opens up to a translucent clerestory “window” comprised of polycarbonate panels, seamlessly transitioning back into the black metal cladding below. The interior is all white with exposed roof trusses; a light and airy contrast to the stoic and grounded black shell. Inside is a simple footprint that is flexible enough to be configured for any work, leisure or storage situation that the occupant desires.
