Alterations to existing single-storey timber weatherboard single residence with double-storey addition.

A post-war single storey weatherboard house has been renovated with a rear double-storey addition to modernise and upgrade the functionality of this home for a growing modern family. With the single-storey front weatherboard half of the house retained, the addition is demarcated by a double-height volume for the stairwell, with an expansive skylight spanning the width of the house, bringing east sunlight into the middle of the house in the morning and soft, ambient light during throughout the rest of day. A simple and generous open plan kitchen, dining and living space radiate around the external courtyard and backyard, with a large corner sliding door bringing the outdoor in. A chamfered box rests above with additional rooms for the growing family, strategically placed to maximise views to the backyard whilst minimising the visual impact from the street and surrounds.
