Single-storey extension of existing single-storey house.

A professional couple in anticipation of a new family life decided to expand their single residence by adding a single storey to the back of house. The house retains its period façade and details. However, the internal layout is altered to improve the liveability. The new extension comprising of the kitchen and living room has floor to ceiling glass windows on the northern façade and flaunts a tapering roof that derives its reference from a chimney. However, instead of a chimney, a skylight placed at the apex of the truncated cone brings in natural light that bounces off the roofs geometry to create interesting shadows in the spaces below.
